In Michigan, unpaid real property taxes are forfeited to the county treasurer in their second year of delinquency, and parcels still unpaid as of March 31 in the third year of delinquency are foreclosed. The foreclosing governmental unit then sells the foreclosed property at auction in a window that opens on the third Tuesday in July after the foreclosure judgment and closes on the first Tuesday in November. The minimum bid covers all delinquent taxes, interest, penalties and fees, and the state has a right of first refusal to buy foreclosed property before it goes to auction.
