North Dakota tax sales

deed state

North Dakota does not sell tax liens to investors. When property taxes have been delinquent for two or more years, the county auditor gives notice of foreclosure of the tax lien by June 1, and the lien is foreclosed on October 1. The county then takes a tax deed and sells the property at its own public auction, held each year in November in the counties covered here, with each parcel sold separately to the highest bidder but not below a minimum sale price. Under state law, some cities have the first option to buy, so parcels on a county's list may be gone by sale day. In Burleigh County the former owner can still stop the sale by paying everything owed before the auction starts.
