Idaho does not sell tax liens. If delinquent property taxes aren't paid within three years, the county tax collector issues a tax deed to the county. The county commissioners then auction the property, within 14 months of the tax deed, to the highest bidder, with a minimum bid that covers the taxes, interest and costs owed. Money left over after the county is paid goes to parties in interest and then to the former owner. Property the county can't sell at auction may later be sold without further notice. In Canyon County the former owner can redeem right up until the parcel is offered, so parcels often drop off the list.
