Kansas does not sell tax liens. When real estate sold to the county for delinquent taxes is still unredeemed on September 1 of the second year after that sale, the board of county commissioners orders the county attorney or county counselor to file a tax foreclosure action in district court. After judgment, the sheriff offers each tract at public auction for the highest and best bid. The owner may redeem before the day of sale by paying the taxes, interest and costs. The court confirms a regular sale, and the sheriff then gives the buyer a deed.
