Under Missouri law the county collector offers land with delinquent taxes at a public auction each year on the fourth Monday in August, starting at 10 o'clock, at or near the courthouse; the collector may also run it online at the same time. After payment the collector gives the buyer a certificate of purchase rather than a deed. The owner has an absolute right to redeem during the following year by paying the amount due plus interest at the rate in the certificate, not more than ten percent a year, and the right to redeem ends when the buyer gets the deed.
