How to bid: In person at the Courthouse in Sterling. All bidders must register in the Treasurer's Office (from 8:00 a.m.) and receive a bidder number; a W-9 should be completed before registering. County employees and their immediate families may not bid. Parcels are sold by open bidding to the person who pays the largest amount in cash above the taxes, penalty, interest and costs; premium bids go in dollar increments under $1,000 and $5.00 increments at $1,000 and over, and premiums are non-refundable and earn no interest. Bids must be covered by cash, certified checks, bank cashier's checks, same-day wire (fee added) or a personal check guaranteed by a bank's irrevocable letter of credit approved before sale day. Unsold parcels may be bought from 3:00 p.m. on the sale day until close of business Tuesday, November 24, 2026.
